So, who is Big Mama?

She is Catherine Wilt!  A supportive and hardworking model to her family and friends.  Cathy made her own career in the restaurant business by educating herself through life experiences and reading a ton of books.

Many people would agree that she is very driven and knows what she wants. She does not mince words when it comes to personal, political or business issues.  She is not afraid of change and there is never much lapse in-between her projects.

She has had many struggles and challenges throughout her life. A lot of people would have given up/ or thrown in the towel a long time ago.  Not Cathy, she continues to dig-in and keep her roots growing from the dream she started over thirty years ago.

What makes her desire so strong?

"There were many things that motivated me to continue to work hard and improve the Kalico.  My son Donnie was the biggest driving force behind me.  I was a single mom trying to make something solid for our family's future.  We needed to do the best we could to survive; Donnie continues to work with me today."

"We are proud to have gotten as far as we have and we will continue to try new ideas and bring in the best to help the future of the Kalico Kitchen."

To all of our patrons -

Down-home cookin'...               Biskits & Gravy.

"Our sausage gravy is made from scratch every morning.
Fresh Pork chops and our Center Cut Ham Steak with three eggs, potatoes and biskits and gravy have been served the same way from day one along with our Roast Pork and Beef served with mashed potatoes and gravy on homemade bread.  Some of our many down-home cooked foods are:  Turnip greens, beans and cornbread, and our famous green beans."

A little history....

In 1977, Cathy Wilt, better known in the community as the Kalico Lady, had a dream. Cathy wanted to make sure her restaurant was a place where families could go out to eat and get the best ‘home cooked’ meal in town.

After over 30 years, her vision is still alive. Good news travels fast. Cathy has customers who come to Kalico Kitchen, from far and near, because they know they’re going get served-up the best meal around.

The menu hasn’t changed much over the years, at Kalico Kitchen, because people keep coming back for more of the same good food.

Business has BOOMED, with the addition of a larger seating area, a closed- in-patio and a Meat Market / Deli-Take-out. And though the business is growing, Cathy will always stay in touch with what brought Kalico Kitchen to where it is today: Great food at a great price, with southern hospitality.
